Can change happen while balancing revolution and evolution?

What is the the difference between a revolution and an evolution?

An example of a Revolution.

Have you ever thought about it or did you think they were the same thing as me? Well, they’re not the same thing. They both have the same goal but the way that goal happens is different. Evolution is a change made peacefully. On the other hand, a revolution is usually historically violent.

Can change happen?

I think that change can happen either way. I think peaceful protests (Evolution) can be helpful and cause a change. However, I think a revolution is more effective. In the French Revolution, the “Storming of the Bastille” frightened the 1st and 2nd Estate so much that it led to a major change. This is just one of many examples in history of a revolution.

Are Drones Helpful or Harmful on Farms?

What is a Drone?

A drone is a type of Unmanned Ariel Vehicle. Otherwise known as a UAV. When many people think of a drone, they may think of a military drone, space drone, or maybe even a drone used to film videos. Did you know that a drone can be used on a farm? Today you’ll find out if I think drones are helpful or harmful on farms.

How Drones are Helpful on Farms.

Drones can be helpful in many ways on farms. They allow farmers to watch over their land in a matter of minutes instead of hours. Drones can spray pesticides and chemicals to keep pests and bugs off their crops. Don’t think I forgot about the organic eaters in the world. Drones can scare off animals and bugs with their loud fan noise without spraying any pesticides or chemicals on the crops. Drones also can play a major role in a crop’s lifespan. Drones can be programmed to spray the correct amount of water onto a plant without giving it too much or not enough water. This would be much easier than having long sprinkler lines that spray in one area and may not spray every plant. Drones can also perform one of the hardest jobs of them all. They are able to herd cattle without putting anyone in danger.

How Drones Can Be Harmful?

One thing that is a major concern to some people is the effect drones may have on flights. Rules have been set ordering drones to stay below a certain height and a certain distance away from airports. However, I don’t think concerns farm drones. Most farms are far away from airports and may rarely see a plane pass over in a range of a drone.

What do You Think About Drones?

I personally think that drones are helpful on farms. I think that the pros outweigh the cons. I think that if the only bad thing about them is possibly interfering with air traffic, then they are pretty useful and safe.

How do the actions of the people influence leadership?

Map of Europe (1550-1800)

The Age of Absolutism

During the Age of Absolutism, monarchs ruled over the territories of Europe. A monarch is a sovereign head of state, especially a king, queen, or emperor. An absolute monarch is when a monarch holds all the power. A constitutional monarchy is when a government’s power is limited by a constitution or formal document that all citizens must follow. During the Age of Absolutism, absolutism and constitutionalism were two very popular ideas. This lead to different countries being led by different types of leaders.

Louis XIV

Louis XIV

Louis XIV was the ruler of France from September 5, 1638 to September 1, 1715. He was an example of an absolute monarch. Some of his accomplishments are when he defeated a formidable coalition (Spain and the Holy Roman emperor) and extended the frontier of France. Some his failures as a monarch include when he revoked the Edict of Nantes, which granted freedom of worship, and gave up part of his territorial acquisitions when he signed the Treaty of Rijswijk, for which the public judged him harshly. This pretty much means that he gave up part of France’s land in order not to go to war.

How did Charles’s need for absolutism impact England?

Charles I

Charles the First was a very power-hungry leader. His need for absolutism left a negative impact on England. He needed money because the country was at war with Spain and France. Charles only wanted Parliament for the money he could get from it. When Parliament refused to fund him, he would dissolve it. The Parliament got fed up with him, so they created the Petition of Rights (No taxation without the consent of Parliament, No imprisonment without cause, No quartering of soldiers on subjects, and No martial law in peacetime) to protect the people. Charles agreed to sign the Petition, but he did not obey what it stated. He started becoming less popular, fled from Parliament, and formed a loyal army. This army fought for him in the English Civil War from 1642 to 1649. He became a prisoner of war and was tried and killed for treason.

How did Cromwell’s constitution impact England?

Oliver Cromwell

In 1644, the Puritans found Oliver Cromwell and made him their general. He helped win the English Civil War against the Cavaliers. When he claimed to rule over England, he abolished the monarchy and made a republican based government. After seizing Irish lands, he established constitutionalism. He grew and provided for a large navy and army. Cromwell was a strict ruler and abolished things he found sinful like sporting events, dancing, theater, etc. Though he was strict, he favored religious toleration for all Christians except Catholics, and he allowed Jews to return after being expelled from England in 1290. He promoted education by setting up many new schools, and he also reduced minor crime punishments.

What was the outcome of Charles II and James II rule?

Charles II
James II

Charles the Second ruled over England after Oliver Cromwell died in 1658, and restored the monarchy of England; the time he ruled was called a Restoration Period. Parliament passed the Habeas Corpus, which ensured that rulers can’t imprison someone for disagreeing with the ruler, and that prisoners can’t be held indefinitely without free trial. Charles II’s brother, James II, inherited the throne and broke English law by appointing religious Catholics to high office. This led to him being overthrown by his daughter Mary, and her husband William of Orange. Him running away led to this peaceful resolution being known as the Glorious Revolution.

What impact did William & Mary have on the English government?

William and Mary

William and Mary vowed to recognize Parliament as their partner in governing at their Coronation. The Bill of Rights is a document for rulers to limit their royal power. It stated that those arrested must be given a fair trial, Parliament must approve of all laws, elections must be free and not tampered with by the king. William and Mary consented to the Bill of Rights, and the list had some things such as no interfering with freedom of speech in Parliament and no penalty for a citizen who petitions the king about grievances. England wasn’t an absolute monarchy but a constitutional monarchy, which is a system of governing in which the ruler’s power is limited by law. A cabinet was used for when Parliament and the monarch disagreed. It would go to a group of government ministers, or officials, that acted in the ruler’s name, which is what a cabinet is.

National Center for Children in Poverty (NCCP)

NCCP Logo

Goal- “To improve the lives of low-income children and their families by delivering our research to advocates and policymakers seeking to craft effective policies that promote healthy child development, and strong, nurturing families that are economically secure.”
Who- This organization targets children in poverty.
What- “Improve the lives of low-income children and their families.”
Where- All over the U.S. but focuses on high poverty states
How/ Purpose/Mission/Goals- “Search into issues that contribute to child poverty and make sure our ideas reach those in a position to make meaningful change that reduces the number of families experiencing hardship.” The NCCP creates public policy drafts and sends them to state and government officials who can make a change. For example, the most recent publication is titled “Supporting Social-Emotional and Mental Health Needs of Young Children Through Part C Early Intervention: Results of a 50-State Survey”. This publication focuses on children with social-emotional (SE) delays and mental health conditions. The NCCP sends people to the houses of these children to play with them in order to improve their mental health and social skills.
Role- I would be an informer. I would pretty much use festivals and things like Oxford Fest in order to spread the word on how this organization works and what they do.

How do actions of the people influence leadership?

When a major group of people want something it is hard to say “No.” If a political leader had many of his citizens and government officials all wanting the same thing, he wouldn’t want to say “No” and receive backlash from it.

The 2020 Presidential Election. Who will win?

Trump or Biden? Who will you vote for? Are you a Republican or a Democrat? The 2020 Presidential Election is coming up very soon. In this blog, you will hear my prediction about the 2020 Presidential Election.

My prediction.

I think that it will be a very close Presidential race, but I believe that Joe Biden will win. I truly believe that most voters that vote for Joe Biden are just voting against Donald Trump. I think that for this reason alone, Joe Biden will have a major advantage.

Facts and Stats.

Blue- Biden Red- Trump

Since last year, Joe Biden has had a lead of 4 points or more over Donald Trump. Donald Trump, according to many, has also failed to respond to the COVID-19 Global Pandemic. Saying, “You know the bottom line, though? You’re gonna get better. You’re gonna get better. If I can get better, anybody can get better. And I got better fast” (Cillizza). This sways voters to lean toward Biden, who has shown action trying to provide health to the millions affected. Trump also said, “By the way, on November 4, you won’t hear about it anymore.” (Bennet). Does this show that Trump is taking the pandemic seriously if he pretty much says that it’s a hoax? Donald Trump Jr. also declared that coronavirus deaths had dropped to “almost nothing.” (Bella). While this isn’t the president that said this, you can only assume he will feel the same way. Will this persuade voters that had family members die from COVID-19. I really don’t think so. For these reasons, I think that Joe Biden will win mainly win because of Donald Trump’s mistakes.

How I feel if Joe Biden Wins?

I honestly don’t think that this would be the best for America. I think people aren’t voting for the person that is best for the United States of America. I think they are voting against the person they don’t like.

Hunting Humans?

Richard Connell’s short story “The Most Dangerous Game” focuses on a man named Rainsford. He is forced to be hunted by the psychopath General Zaroff. Zaroff has found that it is too easy to kill animals so he hunts humans because they have the ability to think and reason. Do all psychopaths think like this or is General Zaroff an exception? Well lucky for you Danielle Egan discusses the mental state of psychopaths and why their reasons are in her article, “Into the Mind of a Psychopath”.

What is a psychopath?

A psychopath is a person suffering from a chronic mental disorder with abnormal or violent social behavior. This basically means that they are unstable and very aggressive.

How is a psychopath different from you?

On the outside, a psychopath may look the exact same as you. They may fit in with the crowd and hide in plain sight. However, their brains have very different brain activity. On the top half of the picture, you can see how little brain activity a psychopath uses. The red indicates how much emotion a psychopath uses or expresses. On the bottom, it shows how much a normal person uses their brain and how much emotion they express.

How a psychopath hunts humans?

A psychopath will plan out their kills based off where the humans are. They will stalk them to understand what their daily routine is and when the best spot to attack is. This reminds me of when hunters watch deer and other animals on cameras that are hidden in plain site. Once a psychopath has acquired their target and location, they strike.

Hunting is “The Most Dangerous Game”

In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game”, Richard Connell shows us a fiction version of a psychopath. He invites people into his home in the jungle and then sets them off on an adventure to be hunted. In the story it’s either hunt or be hunted . Is this what it’s like to be a psychopath and are there any near you?

How Martin Luther is still inspiring change in modern-day times.

Who was Martin Luther?

Martin Luther

No, I’m not talking about Martin Luther King Jr. I’m talking about Martin Luther of the Reformation. Martin Luther was a professor who started the movement against the Catholic Church. He wrote the 95 theses against the Church and ultimately decreased their power.

How did Martin Luther stop the Catholic Church, and why did he do it?

The 95 Theses

Martin Luther wanted to stop the Catholic Church because he believed that it had too much power. He thought that they were making more political decisions than the leaders of the country. He also believed that the Pope wasn’t the spiritual authority but the Bible was. The first thing he did was write the 95 theses. These were statements that exposed what the Church was doing wrong. This enlightened everyone’s minds and made them think whether the Pope was able to be trusted. Then he used the printing press to print the Bible in languages that everyone could read. This started to show that the Pope wasn’t telling all of the truth. After this Luther started the Protestant Church. They based their faith off of the Bible instead of what the Pope said. The Protestant Church grew in size and population in massive amounts which led to differing faiths/new denominations, religious freedom, and personal enlightenment. Martin Luther inspired other people to start/believe in their own types of religion. This also led to the political protection of citizens to worship who or what they want. Once new denominations of faith were created if forced differing religions to work out their differences and live peacefully.

How Martin Luther is still being seen today.

Israel and Saudi Arabia flags.

In Saudi Arabia, government officials and citizens are being enlightened by Israel. They are now willing to try to create peace because they have been enlightened. Saudi Arabia now has it’s citizens and government officials all wanting the same thing just because they were opened to a new idea by Israel. Israel has religious freedom laws put in place. Saudi Arabia took note of this and is now trying to make peace treaties with Israel. Israel is taking a major risk when trying to create an ally out of a decade long enemy. Since Israel is trying to create peace with the enlightened country of Saudi Arabia it may lead to a long disagreement about religion to come to an end. This could lead to citizens having religious freedoms and being able to worship and discuss any religion they prefer. Without Martin Luther, would this ever be possible? Could Saudi Arabia and Israel be allies without Martin Luther? Who knows?

Can old stories relate to modern-day life?

How does an old story about a bird give life lessons such as pride, humility, and acceptance?

While reading “The Scarlet Ibis”, by James Hurst, I realized that there was a lot more to the story than just a gloomy story about a little boy. The story uses a relationship between an older brother (Brother) and a younger brother with disabilities(Doodle) to exemplify lessons that I think are forgotten today. Let’s see if you think the same

Love versus Pride

The Scarlet Ibis

I think the most significant universal theme in “The Scarlet Ibis” is choosing whether love or pride matters more to you. In the story, Brother says “He was a burden in many ways” and he also says “A long list of don’ts went with him”. This shows how Brother let his pride overrule his love for Doodle. Then, later on, he says “To discourage his coming with me, I’d run with him across the ends of the cotton rows and careen him corners on two wheels.” Doodle’s brother doesn’t love him enough to even want him to be with him even when it’s just them. He doesn’t want anyone to see him because he’s ashamed to be his brother. Towards the end of the story Doodle’s brother starts to change his mind about Doodle and begins to love him but it’s too late. The story says “I heard Doodle, who had fallen behind, cry out, “‘ Brother, Brother, don’t leave me! Don’t leave me!“‘ Brother decides to keep running and leave his brother behind in the thunderstorm and it results in Doodle’s death. This ultimately shows what can happen if you let pride overrule your love for someone.

Pride versus Acceptance and Humility

Acceptance means love that person no matter what.

The second universal theme I want to address is to show acceptance and humility towards other people. In the story, Brother doesn’t show these traits. He lets his pride consume his feelings of acceptance and humbleness. Brother says ” It was bad enough having an invalid brother, but having one who possibly was not all there was unbearable, so I began to make plans to kill him by smothering him with a pillow.” The fact that he makes plans to kill his baby brother utterly heartwrenching. He doesn’t even try to accept the fact that his brother’s life is a miracle. Brother only cares if his brother is like everyone else. Later on when Brother is trying to teach Doodle to walk this happens, “‘Don’t hurt me, Brother,” he warned. “‘Shut up. I’m not going to hurt you. I’m going to teach you how to walk.'” Brother couldn’t show enough humbleness in his heart with a boy who has never walked in his life to just say “It’s okay we’ll try again.” This shows that Brother doesn’t know how to accept his brother for the way he is and he can’t show humility by showing that he’s not perfect either. Pride is a powerful characteristic and can easily overtake the love and acceptance of someone.

Do you think people today lack humility?

Can people have a lot of pride and still show love towards other people?

Do you think people are more easily accepted for who they are today or in the past?
